Features & Benefits
What is the Nortel VPN Router portfolio?
For enterprises, Nortel's VPN Router portfolio taps the Internet
to create a powerful, low-cost secure IP solution to replace
expensive, dedicated wide area networks.
For service providers, Nortel's VPN Router portfolio is the
perfect answer to capitalize on the growing market for managed
IP Services - including remote access and site-to-site VPNs
or managed Internet access services.
What services are delivered by Nortel's VPN Routers?
Nortel's VPN Routers are a purpose built secure VPN Router
device that offers high-speed VPN (Encryption/Authentication),
stateful firewalling, robust IP routing, Wide Area Networking
(WAN) and Quality of Service (QoS), and Lightweight Directory
Access Protocol (LDAP) services all in a tightly integrated
and fully managed platform. These core IP services are "licensable,"
allowing customers to "turn-up" and pay for services
(VPN, firewall, directory, advanced routing and QoS) as they
are needed.
What is Secure Routing Technology (SRT)?
SRT is a software framework that embeds security into all
Nortel VPN Routers. It provides scalability and high-performance
even when running multiple IP services in the same device.
SRT on Nortel's VPN Routers deliver such key features as dynamic
routing over secure IP tunnels, common user security policies
and the ability to turn up new IP services on demand.
How can these devices be deployed across my network?
Nortel's VPN Routers are designed to be easily deployed at
enterprise, branch and small-office locations, and interoperate
seamlessly with existing network components such as routers,
firewalls and existing authentication mechanisms. Support
for WAN interfaces, routing, firewalling, directory services
and QoS allows Nortel's VPN Routers to assume a larger role
as the enterprise migrates these IP services from legacy devices
over to the highly integrated and centrally managed Nortel
platform.
What about third-party certification?
As a market leader in IP Virtual Private Networking (IP VPN),
Nortel has been delivering secure end-to-end IP VPNs for years.
Nortel's VPN capabilities are standard in every unit and include
support for standard IPsec tunneling, authentication and encryption
services. Nortel also offers broad support for all leading
digital certificates (PKI), strong authentication, global
dialer, personal firewall, intrusion detection and directory
vendors to ensure customers can deploy best-of-breed end-to-end
solutions. Nortel VPN Routers have been certified by both
TruSecure (ICSA) for IPSec multi-vendor interoperability,
and by the Federal Government's FIPS-140 certification process
to ensure high levels of security compliance.
How broadly distributed is the Nortel VPN Client?
With an estimated 35 million+ Nortel VPN Clients deployed
globally since 1998, Nortel has established itself as a leader
in the remote access VPN market. Our VPN client's robust feature
set, extreme stability and overall ease of use supports customers'
requirement in rolling out large numbers of VPN users while
limiting deployment issues and containing support costs.
How do Nortel VPN Routers provide firewall protection?
Nortel VPN Routers Stateful Firewall software combines an
easy-to-use interface with rich filtering rules sets to provide
multiple lines of defense for an enterprise's private network.
With extensive logging, a wide range of application layers
gateways and built-in protection against hacker attacks, the
Nortel VPN Router stateful firewall can deliver wire-speed
throughput while protecting an enterprise's network and its
data from unauthorized intrusion.
What about performance?
Nortel VPN Routers support thousands of simultaneous routing,
VPN and firewall connections at throughput rates in excess
of hundreds of Mbps. As these IP Services are applied to users
and connections, Nortel's hardware/software architecture ensures
no impact to expected performance.
Nortel VPN Routers deliver on high availability in our hardware
design, software feature set, and by overall high availability
network design to insure our customer's networks continue
operating 24x7x365.
